Nature of Work

This is responsible administrative and technical work in enforcing the Town?s Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and Land Use regulations. The job includes permitting and inspections of development projects and securing compliance with the town?s ordinances. This person is the Town?s authorized Shoreland Zoning Officer, and Land Use Regulator. Examples of Work (Illustrative only)

1. Reviews for compliance applications for development, including building construction and/or renovations, calculates fees, and issues permits when appropriate, or refers to appropriate boards or agencies for action.

2. Inspects buildings and developments which are under construction, alteration or repair for compliance with the municipal Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, Floodplain Management Ordinance and land use requirements.

3. Investigates complaints of possible shoreland zoning ordinance or other land use violations, including Planning Board approved subdivisions, initiating appropriate action to ensure compliance as necessary.

4. Attends Board of Selectpersons, Planning Board and Board of Appeals meetings as necessary.

5. Takes appropriate enforcement action against violations of town development and zoning regulations as provided for in these regulations.

6. Prepares and maintains records and reports of all Code Enforcement Office actions and performs other work as required by laws or ordinance that he/she is authorized to perform.

Requirements of Work

? Considerable knowledge of approved methods and materials used in land use development and building construction.

? Considerable knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing land use development, and the ability to interpret same.

? Ability to deal with the public firmly and courteously under adverse or strained conditions.

? Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.

? Ability to recognize codes violations and to take appropriate enforcement action.

? Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.

Desirable Experience and Training

? Graduation from an accredited high school.

? Considerable experience in zoning and land use regulations and/or the construction industry.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the operation of communication equipment and will also be responsible for receiving and transmitting routine and emergency requests for law enforcement, fire, rescue and/or emergency assistance in a coordinated and calm manner; to monitor public safety frequencies and to operate complex teletype and video terminals for automated information retrieval.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants who are E-911 and EMD certified are preferred. Selected candidates will have to pass a multiple-step screening process.

Title: Public Safety Dispatcher

Job Description:

The City of Bangor is seeking to fill a full-time Public Safety Dispatcher position. This position requires working in a fast paced telecommunication center answering business and emergency calls and dispatching police, fire and other emergency responders. The applicant will participate in an oral interview, must be in good health, pass a background check and polygraph examination and participate in an interview with the Chief of Police. The successful applicant will become familiar with computer-based dispatching systems. Training will be provided to the sucessful candidate to become EMD, CTO and E-911 certified. This position involves shift work with some required overtime. This is an opportunity for a self-motivated and dedicated individual to join a professional communication staff in a modern dispatching environment. Starting pay is 12.93 per hour and includes a complete comprehensive benefits package. Increases to the current pay scale are anticipated with the signing of a new collective bargaining agreement.
