Title: Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector

Job Description:

NATURE OF WORK:

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for reviewing all applications for construction, development, change of use or demolition and issuance of the necessary permits if required and advising the applicant of their responsibilities. The CEO is responsible for informing applicants of State and local laws, ordinances or regulations and the applicant's rights under such material and any administrative remedies.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical and other construction trades. Knowledge of State and local regulations and codes. Ability to read plans and drawings. Ability to interpret plans and drawings and make interpretations of regulations and codes and apply these decisions to work situations. Ability to interview the public regarding information presented to support the applications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, Board members and the public. Ability to deal with the public firmly and courteously under adverse and strained conditions. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and take appropriate enforcement action. Must possess a valid Maine motor vehicle operator's license. Must have or obtain in a timely manner any required certification and/or licenses.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Graduation from an accredited high school and a two year degree program in building construction, structural design or a college degree in related fields or an equivalent education and experience in the construction industry.

Persons in this position will be evaluated based on quantity and quality of work, job knowledge, judgment and decision making ability, planning and organization, oral and written communication skills, self improvement, public relations and results achieved.
